The newest version of the amendment, SB 514, moves the ballot date from November 2012 to May 2012. The new bill also retains problematic language from the older Senate version, defining opposite-sex marriage as the state’s “only domestic legal union,” but adds, ”This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.”

From Ms R Mann of ENC
"There are several individuals and groups organizing NOM counter-protests (links to their pages below). ENC will have a "truth squad" there to speak with media, but otherwise is directing people to the grassroots efforts that others have put together.

By all reports their tour isn't going too well the most they have had is 54, however going by Brian and Maggie their rallies had over hundreds.
I have been told one of the above events creator has a permit to counter protest, so we shouldn't run into any problems there..
So if you are free and able to attend this please do so. We must drown them out, and Show that LGBT's of the Carolinian's are united in this cause. That we will not take their Homophobia setting down. We will no-longer stand on the side lines while they try to walk all over us..

Now we're reminding the Obama administration that we want our share of the Hope and Change promised to all of us.
If we want change we have to show up and demand it. No one will give it to us. If we didn't realize that before we certainly should now.
This protest is part of Join the Impact's national day of protest against DOMA. We made a huge impact on November 15th. We can do it again!
On September 21st, 1996, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was signed into federal law. DOMA, wrote discrimination into federal law with two strict regulations:
No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state.
The Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.
To drive the point even further, 37 states slowly but surely adopted DOMA as a state-wide regulation further amending state Constitutions. This apphauling law tells the American people that it is OK to discriminate. That it is OK to recognize the LGBTQ community as less than equal.
This same law, that the California Supreme Court deemed unconstitutional set the precendence for Proposition 8 and other discriminatory laws throughout the country. This same law has nullified many rights that come with Domestic Partnerships. This law has nullified the heterosexual rights that come with Common Law Marriage. This law blurred the lines of seperation of church and state even further. And this law, is one of many that President Elect Barack Obama has PROMISED to repeal in his "Open Letter to the LGBTQ Community."
