Special event

PFLAG Rocky Mount will host a reception Friday, May 21, 8 p.m., to precede the special late night performance by Peter Neofotis, 9:30 p.m.($10), in the Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell Theatre, Barton College, Wilson, NC. Neofotis will present "The Botanist," from his book -- Concord, Virginia -- published in 2009 by St. Martin's Press. "The Botanist," drawn from the writer's own experience of growing up gay in the rural South, tells of a young college student who is persecuted for his homosexuality. The story is both heart-wrenching and hilarious. The event is presented in connection with the 2010 season of Theater of the American South. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, visit www.theateroftheamericansouth.org or call 252-291-4329.
