To Rebecca, women’s rights are just common sense, but an abortion rights debate in seventh grade taught her that not everyone agrees. “I’m still waiting for logic to win,” she says. A self-proclaimed habitual volunteer, Rebecca is the state president of NOW and a member of North Carolina Women United and the Guilford Coalition on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, in addition to her paying job as a community organizer for Equality North Carolina, which works to foster equal respect. Her short-term goals include working to elect quality officials, helping pass legislation that respects the rights of all people, achieving pay equity and increasing access to childcare and health care. Sounds daunting, but educating ourselves and others is a big step in the right direction. “I certainly don’t think you have to be a woman to be a feminist; you just have to be pushing for women’s rights, for human rights.”If you need more info, email Rebecca by clicking here.
