Rocky Mount SVPA Meeting

Rocky Mount Pflag and Equality NC community workshop on SVPA (School Violence Prevention Act) was held tonight at the Edgecombe Community College in Rocky Mount. I must say that I have seen bigger events for stuff animals then one I attend tonight. Yes I shock by the lack of support from the community and also that there was no one from Africa-American Community or any other minority group present at this meeting.

Very small group, I would have to guess two members of the Pflag group, three from Equality NC, and there were 13 others. While the meeting only last about an hour I must say it was informative. While some of the stories that Ms Rebecca Mann touch on was very moving. She explains in detail the postcard campaign and it's objective. This is as follow, "We're collecting postcards filled out by NC residents to drop off at your Legislator's Office, Lawmakers do respond to seeing thier constituents supporting this bill?"

The Following is bill as supporter of this bill. Equality NC, Action for Children NC, ACLU-NC, Alliance of Disability Advocates, American Association of University Women of NC, The Arc of NC, Covenant with NC's Children, NAACP-NC Conference of Branches, National Association of Social Workers, State Public Affairs Committee of the Junior League of NC, NC Association of Educators, NC Council of Churches, NC Foster and Adoptive Parents' Association, NC Justice Center, NC National Organization for Women, NC Women Untied, Planned Parenthood of Central NC, El Pueblo, and Say So, Inc. If you need more info please contact Rebecca at Rebecca@equalitync.org or Seth at seth@equalitync.org for more information.

It was suggest that more need to happen on the home front, that this issue really need to start with the parents of the children. That when children are young they don't see color or race or sexuality, they only see another child.

The truth is that Hate starts at home; it either is taught or implies that it is ok. This is where it must start if not then we will ever have any type of equality.

I can only hope that there will be more LGBT Community Events in the Nash, Edgecombe area.
